Admissions
JBPP is designed for highly motivated learners who wish to work in professional Japanese business environments. Minimum requirements for admission include the following:
  1. You must be at least 18 years old by the program start date. For the Format 1 course, applicants with university degrees and/or some business experience or background will receive priority.
  2. You should be at intermediate level or above and have completed the equivalent of volumes 1 and 2 of the Minna no Nihongo series. This means you should have already learned keigo and attained proficiency at or above level 3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
  3. You must pass the JBPP online test and online listening test by scoring 75% or higher. If you score between 60% and 74%, we recommend that you start with our two-week preparatory ("yobi") course to review basic grammar and keigo quickly. After evaluating your test results, the JBPP instructors will contact you by e-mail to advise you on how to proceed.
  4. A level-check test is conducted the day before the course begins. Applicants who don't make the grade can transfer into alternative programs.
  5. Although not required, it is helpful if you have some experience with using computers and the internet. You do not need to bring a computer with you but may find it useful to do so.
  6. Citizens of certain countries need guarantors in order to study in Japan. Please check the visa requirements page to see if this applies to you.
